Bathed in what was easily the most beautiful concert lighting I’ve encountered in a long time, Pete Yorn delivered an earnest, rocking performance at The Pageant last night. As head Thorrior Valient Himself bellowed from the stage: “We’re about peace and equality through blood, sweat and rock-n-roll. So let’s fuckin’ do this!”. His call was answered with a mighty roar from the crowd as the band erupted again.
The lighting for this set seemed better than it was at their November headlining gig, and I really love the fact that there are zero obstructions to shooting them. Even Jean-Paul is relatively easy to capture behind his kit, especially compared to Motorhead’s Mikkey Dee.
Headlining a triple bill on what should have been called “The Weapons Of Face Destruction Tour”, England’s finest utterly decimated a capacity crowd at Pop’s last night.
From what I heard at the session, the song is gonna be killer. I can’t wait to see who R&R have lined up for the next track!
If you are one of those families that dresses everyone up in white shirts and blue jeans for a family portrait in the fall colors that’s cool, but I’m not the photog for that gig.
It was a great night for local music fans and I’m sure it was a truly great night for the artists themselves as they realized their collective dream of playing on such a legendary stage.
When hometown heroes Story of The Year give you an opportunity to open for them, it’s a no-brainer to seize the chance. Equal parts boozy rock-n-roll, sweaty soul and freaky psychedlia, Ponderosa is a band that we’ll be hearing a lot more from in the future.
