I will save the gory details of the show for the music journalists in attendance (several reviews should be up soon if not already), but Pokey and Ryan clearly are kindred spirits.
I made a concerted effort on this shoot not to get caught up in overly complex lighting schemes. I have a bad habit of doing that at the expense of eliciting genuine responses from my subjects and going overboard with the lighting might have compromised the simple vibe we were after anyway.
Things got really interesting a couple weeks later when I got a call from Ryan asking if I was available the night of his CD release party. I checked my schedule and, assuming he wanted me to shoot the event, said I wasn’t booked.
